Jay Chou plans on recording and producing new album in Hollywood


Since finishing the filming of idol drama "Pandamen", heavenly king Jay Chou has flown to America to film "The Green Hornet", but for this frequent GMA winner who has just finished his tour concert, the new album the fans look forward has disappeared? According to reports, Jay Chou finished writing the 10 new songs a while ago, but unlike in the past when he has always recorded it in Taiwan, this time he is going over to Hollywood, he's still insisting on 1 album per year and so he's considering recording and producing the album in America.

Singer Jay Chou has once again emerged as the top earning artiste in the Taiwanese music industry, pulling in about 554 million Taiwan dollars (S$23.7 million) in 2009, according to annual industry estimates.

Popular girl group S.H.E takes second place with an estimated income of 360 million Taiwan dollars (S$15.4 million) while Chou's former squeeze, pop princess Jolin Tsai, comes in third, with about 350 million Taiwan dollars (S$15 million).

Other top earners include singers Wang Li Hom, Wilbur Pan, Show Luo and rock band Mayday.

Chou, 30, took home a total of HK$27.5 million (S$4.9 million) for his roles in the films "The Treasure Hunter" and "The Green Hornet". In addition, he also made bank from six corporate appearances, seven concerts and nine commercials as well as his album royalties.

S.H.E made their millions mainly through their appearances in commercials, pocketing a cool 200 million Taiwan dollars (S$8.9 million) from these alone. The group also made money from their 24 performances as well sales of their book and fees for a movie role.

Tsai, 28, who just returned from a three-month hiatus, appeared in 11 commercials, had 24 corporate performances and two concerts in the past year. Her album royalties amounted to 20 million Taiwan dollars (S$850,000).

Singer Elva Hsiao, 30, earned the title of "Comeback Queen" for squeezing into tenth spot after only returning to the music scene in September. She managed to rake in more than HK$25 million (S$4.4 million) within three months of her return.

The ranking for 2009's top 10 highest-earning artistes is finally out. This list, compiled based on each artistes' commercial viability, is put together with the help of representatives from various recording companies. After setting a record of raking in TW$7 billion last year, Taiwanese multi-hyphenate performer Jay Chou retains his top spot despite his slightly-dipped earnings of TW$5.5 billion (S$27 million) this year.

Right behind him are Taiwanese singer-songwriter, Lo Ta-yo, Chang Chen-yue, Jonathan Lee, and Zhou Hua Jian. They each earned S$23 million from their 58 sets of concert performances.

The second runner-up position belongs to Taiwanese girl group, S.H.E. Apart from filming 20 different commercials, the girls also released a self-penned book this year and raked in a total of S$18 million.

Taiwanese pop princess Jolin Tsai came in close behind the trio with a total earning of S$16 million. Apart from 24 corporate performances, and 11 commercial ads, the 29-year-old artiste went on a three-month long break in September after promoting her latest music album and has a slew of commercial offers waiting for her when she resumes work in January 2010.

Jolin's good friend, Show Luo, is next with his S$11 million earnings this year. Taiwanese rock band is ranked at sixth placing with their combined takings of S$10.3 million followed by Angela Chang at S$10 million, Wang Lee Hom at S$9.82 million, Zhang Hui Mei (A Mei) at S$7.44 million, and Fahrenheit at S$7.1 million.
