Google Fiber Deal with NFL at Kansas City

Google Fiber Subscribers now will get National Football League (NFL) Network and NFL RedZone. It means that Google Fiber subscribers will run NFL RedZone for $10 a month, but this offer is limited for only four months of the year. This will be a great news for Sports fans of U.S but not so much for Time Warner Cable Inc (NYSE:TWC) which is the single biggest cable provider who doesn’t carry it, and will try to compete against Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) for getting subscribers in Kansas City.

In Kanas City the only major pay-TV distributor that is not yet carrying the NFL Network is Time Warner Cable but now Google struck a new deal with National Football League (NFL) for carriage of its two cable channels on the search engine’s new broadband distribution service it launched in Kansas City.

For the NFL, the deal is another opportunity to take a shot at Time Warner Cable, or its sister channel RedZone. Time Warner Cable is the cable operator Google is competing with in that region.

The National Football League (NFL) Network isn’t cheap, according to SNL Kagan, it costs almost $1 per subscriber per month. Recently it has increased the number of regular-season games on the NFL Network from eight to 13. The NFL channel consists of sports news shows about the league and the RedZone channel is a Sunday only network that gives live coverage to various games and also cost extra bill to subscribers.

In other deals, Google Inc. will include Lifetime, Comedy Central, USA, CNBC and Showtime. Google is still not succeeded to sign deals with ESPN or HBO. Google is also carrying the local TV stations in the two markets.

To avail the services of Google Fiber, its customers have to pay a $300 fee for Google to wire their house with monthly fee of $120 for TV and Internet, but excluding the premium cable channels.
