There must be a dozen apps that enlarge the camera shutter button on the iPhone to the whole screen, which is great for easier self portraits and other times when you're holding the camera with one hand. But Fast Tap Camera gives you more: It adds a few much-needed capabilities, most notably burst-mode shooting, which lets you take several photos in quick succession without having to wait for them to save. The app's digital zoom and timer functions are just icing on the cake (which is lucky, as the zoom doesn't really do that much). You get a lot for just 99 cents (from the Apple App Store), so let's take this handy tool out for some shooting!
Bursts of Inspiration
The instant you start Fast Tap Camera, you find something missing—the splash screen that most iPhone camera apps display. The company prides itself on getting you up and running quickly. The bright-red icon lets you locate the app instantly, and when the software loads, the shutter button is always in full-screen mode. That makes sense—I see no reason you'd want to limit yourself to the small button the regular camera app displays. To get to the good stuff, you tap the small "i" icon at the lower right corner of the display. Here you see all the app's options—most importantly the two burst modes, 4X and SP (which stands for "speed mode").
Fast Tap defaults to 4X Mode, which lets you take four full-resolution (1,600- by 1200-pixel) photos in succession without waiting for them to save. Unfortunately, this option doesn't feel extremely bursty. You still have to wait over 3 seconds between shutter clicks, and after completing four shots, the app switches to saving mode. That takes roughly another 15 seconds to store the image.
