Acura is the latest car maker attempting to redefine the coupe with the debut of the ZDX prototype at the New York auto show.
Serving as a precursor to a production model, the four-door ZDX prototype stretches nearly 2 inches longer than the MDX, but stands 3 inches shorter than the RDX.
Styling features a sharply raked roofline and rear door handles concealed in the C-pillars to keep with the coupe-like theme. The Acura grille adorns the front, while an all-glass tailgate covers a cargo area with in-floor storage compartments. The prototype rides on nine-spoke 20-inch wheels.
The cabin has leather seating, a hand-stitched leather dashboard and a panoramic glass roof that runs the length of the car.
Power for the ZDX comes from a V6 engine connected to a new six-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels through Acura's SH-AWD system.
In typical Honda/Acura fashion, don't expect to see many changes from the show car to the production car that arrives in dealers this fall. Options such as a blind spot information system, navigation and Bluetooth connectivity will be offered.
