With Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) and HTC releasing their first smartphones using Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone 8 and of course, the next-generation Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone, September is becoming one hell of a month. Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s Motorola is also scheduling an event on September 5 with Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ).
Stay focused in the present and don’t let yourself think too much about September, which is going to be a crazy month for mobile, because today is an important day for Samsung supporters who like it big. Samsung is predicted to launch the Galaxy Note II at the IFA 2012 in Berlin later today, but, prior to this this, Sony Corporation (NYSE:SNE) should reveal some new toys as well.
Motorola has lately started sending out invites for an event to be held on the 18th of next month(September). The event will be held jointly by Motorola and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which could indicate the release of an Intel-powered smartphone. Earlier this year, they had declared their plans to introduce a smartphone on Intel’s silicon at CES.
With this event, Motorola will turn out to be one of the first tier-one brands to launch a smartphone running Intel’s Medfield Atom chipset. According to the invite “let us take you to the edge”, which could represent a thin smartphone with an edge-to-edge display.
Elsewhere, Nokia teamed up with Samsung and Sony to collaborate on standardizing indoor location services around the mobile industry. The alliance named as “The In-Location Alliance” adds 22 companies across industries with an aim to lead innovation and market adoption of high accuracy indoor positioning and related services. The Nokia press release has revealed that the Alliance will be focused on creating solutions offering high accuracy, low power consumption, mobility, implementing ability and usability.
Exact indoor positioning creates several opportunities for new mobile services. For example, consumers would be able to receive directions to the right products and personalized product promotions in nearby shops; real-time navigation would be available inside a building; find exact location of assets and people and even enhance security in emergency situations.
