Facebook aiming to beat Skype!!

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is set with another logical offering that would help it gain as much as another $800 million a year. Facebook is set to introduce a Skype-like voice-over IP solution thereby making its investors happy by adding few more dollars to their reserves.

According to a new report from the Copenhagen-based research firm Strand Consult, the "paradigm shift" for voice traffic, and beyond, could be quite beneficial for Facebbok. Looking at the past shows virtual network operators like Lyca Mobile and Lebara Mobile and even VOIP solutions such as Google Talk and MSN have made all efforts to battle with Skype. Knowing that it could not compete with Skype, Microsoft made a smart move of purchasing it in May 2011 for $8.5 billion. Still, "Skype's revenue is nothing to sneeze at, especially for an Internet company struggling to show a profit on advertising revenue.

Facebook is scrambling to please investors, and $300 million to $800 million from VOIP would be welcome on the income statement," stated the report. The report further puts its apprehensions forward as to if Facebook could manage to achieve success in the field where big tech-tycoons like Google and Microsoft have failed. Indeed, Facebook has more likelihood than any platform to be the Skype killer.

In an endeavour to expand its periphery and serving its customers in a even better way, Facebook had not only introduced an update to its iOS app for iPhones and iPads, but had also sped up the app, making it faster to load, faster and easier to scroll through and quicker to click through to content. The company, which is nearing 1 billion users, is trying to persuade more of those users to interact with the site through their mobile devices.
