Apple Inc. (AAPL) is upgrading its AirPlay audio and video streaming technology for iPhone and iPad, which will allow wireless streaming without Wi-Fi, it was first reported by Telegraph that this major update will occur in the next month.
AirPlay is Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s most popular technology that allows users to stream music and videos to wireless speakers and to their television set from their iPhone or iPad. It is expected by sources of Telegraph that this ‘AirPlay Direct’ without Wi-Fi is to be announced with the launch of iPhone 5 on September 12.
Apple’s AirPlay technology currently requires Airplay speakers and a WiFi network but its updated version require just speakers or a hifi and an iDevice; then the devices like iPhone ad iPad will form its own network to allow direct connection for music playback or videos.
AirPlay technology was introduced by Apple Inc. (AAPL) in 2010 alongside the iPhone 4. Since then, many third-party companies are involved in developing speakers and other accessories that take advantage of it.
Apple Inc. has yet to decide about which third parties will take advantage of this new version of AirPlay Direct. The companies which are already at the forefront to take the advantage are iHome and Griffin Technology.
This would be Apple’s version of Bluetooth that is compatible only with Apple products as the company has named the innovation AirPlay Direct.
It is believed by the firm that many stereo docks won’t be compatible anymore and is not good for future iOS products like iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch so by making a Bluetooth-like way to stream the music, Apple can save itself from the angry customers who won’t give up their 30-pin devices.
Apple Inc. is also set to release the next-generation mobile operating software iOS 6 that is also expected with AirPlay updated version.
