On Thursday, the US Patent and Trademark Office reported Apple Inc’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) patent application for a feature that can both lock and unlock an iDevice formed on automatic facial examination.
Apple’s descriptively feature “Locking and unlocking a mobile device using facial recognition” patent petition explains a mobile device that itself captures and examines images of a user’s face, or need thereof, to lock and unlock automatically.
To resolve the problem of having to lock or unlock a product by hand, Apple (AAPL) suggests that a product can be configured to lock itself if the user’s face is no more present in snaps taken by the front-facing camera, and unlock automatically when the user’s face appears again
