Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) violated two of Samsung’s patents related to mobile-data transfer technologies, the Seoul Central District Court said today. Samsung Electronics infringed on one of Apple Inc’s patents related to a “bounce- back” touchscreen feature, while the Suwon, South Korea-based company didn’t copy the design of the iPhone, the court said.
According to the decision, Apple Inc (AAPL) can sell its latest iPad and iPhone 4S but Apple must stop selling the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1 and iPad 2 in South Korea, at the same time as Samsung can also sell its newest products including Galaxy S III phone. Samsung also must stop selling 12 products including the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab.
The Court ruled that Samsung had infringed on 1 of Apple’s patents for the feature that causes a screen to bounce back when a user scrolls to the end of a screen. In South Korea, the court banned sales of Samsung products using that technology, including the Galaxy SII.
But on the other hand, the Court denied Apple’s argument that Samsung had illegally copied its design, that the concept of a big display screen and shape existed in products before the iPhone and iPad. The Court futher odered Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) to pay Samsung 40 million won ($35,000), and the Korean company must also pay 25 million won to Apple Inc.
