At least 131 neighborhoods had signed up for Google Inc.’s Internet and TV service with two days left until a preregistration deadline. But even if all 202 neighborhoods are a go by the Sunday cut-off, it still wouldn’t be enough, Bonner Springs Mayor Clausie Smith said.
Smith met this week with Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) officials about concerns that the company left out Bonner Springs and Edwardsville in the Google Fiber rollout. He said residents of the two cities are upset that they are the only communities in Wyandotte County that won’t have access to the project.
Google is nearing the end of a six-week marketing rally to determine which neighborhoods in Kansas City, Kan., and Kansas City, Mo., express enough interest in the ultra-fast Internet network. It plans to build the network in neighborhoods that meet preregistration goals by Sunday.
