Facebook crack down Fake user name

Everyone is aware of the unending siege of fake names being used on Facebook Inc(NASDAQ:FB). It has been a trend to use fancy adjectives as middle names or remove vowels or use abbreviations. There have been unit of teen girls who have changed their last names to ‘Bieber’ to imply their marriage to pop star Justin Bieber.

In 2008, there were more than 500 profiles each of Ben Dovers and Mike Hunts, as per a journalist. Even though the general population is getting comfortable with the internet, it is becoming increasingly difficult for subversive users to tackle subtler tricks that are even difficult for Facebook to detect.  Using middle name as last name, inventing a fake name, using the name of a fictional character and other similar distortions goes against the strict real-name policy set by Facebook.

Facebook says that the name a user should enter must be real name as it is usually listed on Ids like credit cards. Pretending to be someone else is not allowed on Facebook. Sadly, most Facebook users do not pay heed to such rules. Catching such people is becoming a headache for the social networking company as it plans on building a business. The crackdown on real names implies a greater tension.

CEO and Founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg is of the opinion that privacy standards are advancing toward a bright future that would involve users wanting to publicize all the things they do.

As for now, many users seek more privacy that Facebook regulations are offering.

A 25-year old Brooklynite, Drew Mason working in cosmetics has dropped his last name on Facebook as the site publicized a privacy fuss. He mentioned that employers often check on potential employees to find dirt on their images.

Facebook has a devoted investigations team that monitors user-reported aliases and the firm has also constructed on complex technical systems to flag fake accounts.
