While the launch of the first Lumia was not met by the desired excitement, Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) has not thrown in the towel. It will announce the launch of a new Lumia, called Nokia Lumia 920. The announcement, which will be hosted by the company and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), will take place on Wednesday in New York. The new Lumia will run on Windows 8 Phone, and represents the compounded efforts of Microsoft and Nokia.
Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) has managed to conceal conclusive details about the new product’s design. Nonetheless, pictures supposedly portraying the new Nokia have already gone viral. Nokia Corporation (NYSE:NOK) has not confirmed whether the pictures are genuine or fake, despite the fact that the picture quality is way above average.
One of the most prominent features about the new Nokia Lumia will be its ability to support wireless charging. This comes as a breakthrough, and makes the phone incredibly unique as compared to other smartphones in the market.
In addition to wireless charging, the Lumia 920 is also expected to flaunt a 1.5 GHZ dual-core processor, an 8 megapixel camera, 32 GB of storage, and 1GB of RAM. These high-end hardware specifications will be supported by the Windows 8 Phone operating system, which is expected to seamlessly operate at optimal performance.
The launch of the highly anticipated Lumia 920 will be coupled with the launch of the smaller Lumia 820. The latter is expected to have a 4.3 inch display, a few centimeters shy of 920’s 4.5 inch display. Pricing details on either of the handsets have not yet been released.
This launch will come a week before the launch of the iPhone 5. The Lumia 920 is probably intended to secure a reasonable share of the market before Apple’s iPhone 5 scoops it all.
